The Pacific Northwest Offers Much More Than Liquid Sunshine

While many may argue how many states are a part of the Pacific Northwest, no one disputes that it includes Washington and Oregon.

These two states have much more to offer than “liquid sunshine.” (However, Capt. Meriwether Lewis and Lt. William Clark may contest this point. The sun shone only 12 days when their Corps of Discovery set up camp here from December 1805 through March 1806 just a few miles from where this photo was taken. Native Oregonians and Washingtonians would simply call that bad luck.)

Tourist bureaus across the country may claim that their region should be crowned the most beautiful in America. If we were asked to judge, the prize would go to this magnificent corner with its diverse and awe-inspiring landscapes. One of the most impressive is overlooking the Astoria-Megler bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. From here one can watch the mighty Columbia River roll between these two lush green states and see the sun slip down into the Pacific Ocean.
