What Are They Thinking?
New Zealand is known for its spectacular scenery and geologic wonders from boiling geyers to magnificent fjords. The country’s also known for her people’s ingenuity. They often joke that they can do about anything with a piece of number eight wire (a multi-purpose fencing wire).
Just south of Queenstown is the Shotover River canyon where Kiwis show off their can-do spirit and landscape simultaneously. Here’s where speedboats skim over the water whizzing tourists within inches of rock walls. Up above is the world’s highest bungy jump where people actually pay to fall off or willingly be pushed off a 357’ cliff tied to their best friend, a chair or a tricycle.
We chose instead to see this area by walking the Moonlight Track. The slower pace allowed us to be duly impressed with the sheer drop-offs this flock of sheep encounters daily. Some looked at us. Others stared over at the bungy jumpers and zipliners. Most of them simply grazed. We couldn’t help but wonder what they thought of humans.
